Landfill Conversion to Recycling Center

Landfill Conversion to Recycling Center

Landfills and dumpsites are no longer needed as communities become waste free! All plastics, food and other wastes can be processed in the community where the waste is generated eliminating the need for dumps and landfills.
For existing landfills and dumps, they can be transitioned to a recycling center in a low cost and gradual manner to match the transition of the city or community developing micro recycling centers inside the many neighborhoods.

Transitioning a landfill or dump to a recycling center:
The waste free in 23 upcycling, recycling and waste processing systems are small, modular and low energy consumption solutions for solid waste management. For as little as 100,000 ksh of equipment 400 kg of solid waste each day can be recycled, upcycled and processed and create jobs and generate revenue that meets the operating costs of the equipment and labor.
Food waste – fed to Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) and converted to animal feed rich in protein. Waste from the BSFL is 1⁄2 of the volume of the original waste and is used to improve soil.

Plastic waste – With minimum sorting and no cleaning ALL plastic waste is recycled or upcycled and sold for revenue and made into panels and the products sold to the community, or shredded and used instead of sand for concrete.

Methane from the existing landfill can be captured and used to power the recycling equipment, used for cooking for the waste pickers or collected and sold as cooking fuel in the community
Schedule: within 3 weeks equipment and training can be completed to process 400kg of solid waste per day preventing it from being dumped.
Additional capacity can be added rapidly – achieving 6,000kg of waste per day 10 weeks after start and 18,000 kg of waste per day within 20 weeks.
